H = FALCON MEADOW BUNGAY Car Parking at Staithe Only! From the centre of Bungay get the Buttercross in Market Place on your right go round the mini roundabout taking the third exit which is sign-posted Beccles. Follow road round for about 600 yards and bear left at Gold Star Fencing and telephone box. For fishing cross the Weir 50 yards away and the Waters are all the way upstream to the fence and downstream to the dyke below the Weir. This is a roach migration area in winter, and upstream anticipate depths of over 6 feet but generally under 9’.

Falcon Meadows

A lovely stretch of the River Waveney close to the town centre with good car parking space in the Staithe. This part of the Waveney that runs through Bungay and down to Wainford Mill has some great fishing to offer. Using a light Waggler, stick float or pole there are sizeable chub, roach, bream and pike here. It fishes very well in the winter months for the roach top and lower ends are the better swims but this can change.

For your information. Several people have told me that this stretch was always free fishing the facts however are that the water was leased for cattle grazing purposes and this included the fishing rights, because the lease holders were not interested if people fished it does not mean it was free they still had to pay for the waters. Now that lease has finished and Bungay cherry tree was offered the stretch by the owners. This is good news for the people of Bungay as it means the water remains in the control of the local club instead of going to another club who would have made it all private and therefore not fishable to everyone in Bungay. Please be aware we do not allow the use of live bait or the removal of fish from our waters for this purpose all fish must be returned and those caught fishing with live baits or taking fish for that purpose will have there membership revoked.

Fishing tips.

Fishing with a light Waggler set up with a string of nu 4 shot works well loose feed with caster hemp maggots. In the winter hemp and tares works well or trotting a big piece of bread flake for chub at the lower end. Pole fishing is good here two a light 1.gram float is fine feeding hemp and caster just past middle run for roach. Pike can be a problem when roach fishing so might be chance to get your spinning rod out.

38lb of Roach taken on hemp and tares in late October.

In this Ariel Shot you can see the stretch called falcon meadow from the old bridge to the weir below and the Staithe and car park. Parking at the Staithe and then a short walk over the bridge with a disabled fishing stage marked by the arrows. Red car park-Yellow disabled fishing platform under trees.
