Welcome to The Bivvy.

Summer evenings your rigs are perfect the Carp are feeding and your ready for some rod bending action. Welcome to the Bivvy the section of the website dedicated to carp fishing.

Bungay Cherry Tree angling club has one main still water for carp fishing, the club pit,  but lets not forget the river sections as well as there are some big carp to be caught for those dedicated enough to try for them.

Lets look first at some basic rigs used to catch carp.

Simple Braid rig for carp

As with many things in fishing keeping it simple is always a good idea.

In addition to the simple rig above is the use of a PVA bag filled with pellets broken boilies or particle bait of your choice.

Using a spod to get your bait out to your chosen swim is a good method as bait boats are not allowed on the club waters however sometimes just the pva bag is enough to get a result.

A simple bed of hemp and pellets with a single boiley fished over this with a pva bag of broken pellets is as good a method to use as any but it pays to bring your bait in and cast out again sometimes as the carp can mouth your bait and leave it alone while they feed on your free offerings.

Several anglers have had success with camouflaged rigs as the larger fish become wiser to the standard setups.

The Stonze rig setup with short hook length

Of course everyone will have there favourite rigs and setups and I'm hoping that club members will share some of those rigs on this section if you have a rig you reckon is a winner then send me an email and get it up on the website email mark@bctac.co.uk

I'm waiting...

In the mean time though here are some pics sent in by Jimmy to inspire you...

Many thanks Jimmy NICE fish..

Thanks Jimmy I'm so sad we have lost broome pits lets hope we can still fish it under another name in the future.

Well we still have the club pit and the carp in the river sections to look forward to so it's not all doom and gloom.

Lets talk about surface fishing for carp now the warm weather is here.

The Pellet Waggler, almost too easy.

The Pellet waggler

is a great method for catching carp off the top in the warmer months if you haven't tried it yet here's the low down on the method.

Arriving at your chosen swim have a look around and see if the carp are up in the water. Fire out some feed pellets and watch out for swirls as the carp intercept your bait. Its looking good

so we put on our pellet waggler like so.

Tie a loop on your main line attach your pellet waggler to this with your locking shot. Tie on a small swivel to which is tied your hook length with your hook hair rigged to a pellet band as shown.

Let your pellet sink slowly down with your free offerings and hold on to your rod! I like to cast out often and make a splash to attract the carp around my loose fed pellets. A very exciting way to catch carp off the top in the warmer months.

Rig ideas

Fox rig shrink, ESP 15lb sink link ESP raptor g4 hooks. To tie this rig tie on a simple knotless knot thread a small section of shrink tube and a longer section. Thread the hook link through the shrink tube (use a needle) at the back before heat shrinking the tube with a slight bend. Use a short hook length with an inline lead and pva bag

Driving me cuckoo

Whilst fishing the other week the time was fast approaching 2 in the morning and I decided it was time for some shut eye ready for an early start. However it was not to be. Suddenly the buzzer went off and the bream had moved in, never mind maybe next time I said as I slipped a nice slimy bream back to the water. It was then that the cuckoo decided to arrive. Cuckoo cuckoo! At first I didn't mind and was half asleep but after three and a half hours of non stop cuckoo cuckoo I was beginning to turn into a sleepless zombie. Cuckoo cuckoo it went on and on and on. Good god I never new they could be so relentless. Cuckoo cuckoo I gave up trying to count sheep and was starting to count cuckoos. Cuckoo cuckoo please god make it stop. The buzzer went off it was another bream followed by another. I crawled back to my Bivvy covered in slime and tried to sleep but it was impossible cuckoo cuckoo cuckoo cuckoo this bird was driving me insane. And then just as I was about to give up the attempts to get some kip it suddenly stopped! It was 7.30am I was knackered and then the buzzer went off again, this time a nice fat Tench oh well at least I had a few fish. Did you hear that cuckoo mate I said to my fishing pal Garry. No mate I was fast asleep! How does he do it??
